The first half of 2023 has brought good news for Outlet Shopping Centers across Europe, with the value of sales and the number of visitors at these establishments surpassing pre-pandemic levels.
Compared to the first half of 2019, sales increased significantly in virtually all of Europe, with the Iberian Peninsula recording the highest percentage increase (18.7%). Germany was the only European country to register a small increase, a mere 0.2% - it did, however, show an 8.2% increase in the number of visitors. Regarding this indicator, the Outlets of Eastern Europe stand out, with 10.3% more visitors than in the same period in 2019.
The sharpest increase in sales compared to the first half of 2022 was in Switzerland, Italy and Austria, with the Outlet Shopping Centers in these three countries selling 21.2% more than in the same period last year. Germany was the region that saw the biggest increase in visitors (around 16.5%) in the first half of this year, compared to the same period in 2022. In both indicators, the Iberian Peninsula also showed high figures: an increase of 19.2% in sales and 12% in the number of visitors, data that could be due to several reasons, with the levels of tourism that have been registered in this region being one of the main indicators to take into consideration.
